My Thoughts on Guide to Running a Shop in Another World
"Guide to Running a Shop in Another World" is a novel I dove into recently, and it’s been quite the ride. The premise is simple enough: a protagonist running shops in various worlds thanks to a wish-granting system, but it quickly becomes apparent that there's a lot more going on beneath the surface.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn in by the unique world-hopping premise. It feels like a blend of isekai and quick transmigration, but with a twist – the MC can revisit any of the worlds she's unlocked. This creates a sense of continuity that's often missing in similar stories. The initial lighthearted tone and slice-of-life elements were also a big plus for me.
What Works Well
The novel really shines in its creativity. Each world is unique and well-developed, with its own distinct culture and challenges. The shops themselves are also incredibly imaginative, ranging from a snack shop in the land of the dead to a nail salon in a fantasy world filled with dragons. I particularly enjoyed how the MC uses resources and people from her existing shops to help her with new ventures, creating a growing, interconnected network. The characters are also a strong point, especially the loyal employees who become like family to the MC.
Areas of Concern
While I overall enjoyed the novel, it wasn't without its flaws. Some arcs were definitely stronger than others, and I found myself less invested in a few of the worlds. There were also moments where the plot felt a bit uneven, and the MC's OP nature, while fun at times, could feel a little forced. Another minor issue for me was the large cast of characters; it was sometimes difficult to remember who everyone was, especially with the long periods between their appearances.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find the later arcs to be darker, with some events and plot twists that may not appeal to everyone. Also, while there is a male lead, the romance elements are fairly light.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "Guide to Running a Shop in Another World" is a highly enjoyable and creative novel. If you're a fan of business management stories, world-hopping adventures, and slice-of-life elements with a touch of mystery, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared for a long read, as the story is quite extensive!
