My Thoughts on Favored Intelligent Concubine
"Favored Intelligent Concubine" promised a fun blend of historical romance and comedy with a transmigration twist. After diving in, I found a story that, while charming in some aspects, also presented some frustrations that kept me from fully enjoying the experience.
First Impressions
The initial chapters grabbed my attention with the fish-out-of-water scenario. Our modern female lead, finding herself in an ancient Chinese-like palace, certainly had moments of humor and potential. The premise of a "love interest falls in love first" trope also intrigued me, setting the stage for a potentially sweet and engaging romance.
What Works Well
The lighthearted and fluffy nature of the story is definitely a strong point. The interactions between the female lead and the other characters, especially the male lead, were often funny and cute. I appreciated the absence of a revenge-driven plot, opting instead for a more casual and whimsical narrative. The female lead's boldness and talkative personality, while divisive, added to the comedic effect for me. The initial translation quality was also a plus, making the early chapters a breeze to read and truly enjoyable.
Areas of Concern
My main issue lies with the portrayal of the female lead. While the title suggests intelligence, I struggled to find evidence of it. Her actions often seemed more reckless and ignorant than clever, which detracted from my overall enjoyment. I can see how her modern sensibilities might clash with the ancient setting, but her lack of awareness and sometimes rude behavior made her difficult to root for at times.
The translation quality also became a significant problem later on. What started as a clear and beautiful translation devolved into something akin to machine translation, making the story increasingly difficult to follow. This was a major disappointment, as it severely hampered my ability to stay invested in the plot and characters.

"Favored Intelligent Concubine" has the potential to be a delightful and fluffy read, but it's held back by its inconsistent character portrayal and, more significantly, the declining translation quality. If you're looking for a lighthearted romance and don't mind a somewhat ditzy protagonist, you might find some enjoyment here. However, be prepared to potentially struggle with the later chapters due to the translation issues. Ultimately, I'd rate it a 3 out of 5. It has its moments, but falls short of its full potential.
