My Thoughts on Extra Concentrated Pheromone
"Extra Concentrated Pheromone" promised a fluffy, CEO-filled romance, and while it delivered on some of that, I found myself ultimately disappointed by its execution. The initial setup, with the MC using a fake attraction to escape his family and the ensuing marriage with a highly compatible Alpha, definitely hooked me.
First Impressions
The premise is undeniably charming. A marriage of convenience based on pheromonal compatibility? Sign me up! I was ready for some lighthearted fun, especially with the added layer of the MC treating the ML like a client during courtship and a boss after marriage. That dynamic had potential for some great comedic moments.
What Works Well
The early romance is undeniably sweet. The main couple's dynamic, despite its unusual beginnings, has moments of genuine warmth and humor. There's something inherently appealing about a devoted love interest, and the ML certainly fits that bill, even if he's portrayed as a bit... dense. I also appreciated the inclusion of a side couple, the MC's best friend and the ML's secretary, even though their romance felt rushed.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the novel falters significantly in its later stages. The family drama felt jarring and out of place, like it was tacked on without proper buildup. I also found the characters, especially the ML, to be inconsistent. His behavior sometimes felt at odds with his supposed intelligence as a CEO. The ending, in particular, felt rushed and chaotic, with major plot points crammed into a single chapter. It's as if the author was trying to tie up loose ends as quickly as possible, sacrificing coherence and emotional impact in the process. The lack of extras after such an abrupt conclusion only compounds the feeling of incompleteness.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
The final chapter contains a whirlwind of events: a random lawsuit, a murder-suicide, the MC going into labor, childbirth, and a second wedding ceremony, all punctuated by a short love poem. It's a lot to process, and it ultimately detracts from the overall experience.
Final Verdict
While "Extra Concentrated Pheromone" has its moments of charm and fluff, its inconsistent characterization, poorly integrated drama, and rushed ending ultimately left me underwhelmed. The novel starts strong but loses its way, resulting in a disappointing reading experience. I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
