My Thoughts on Dressed As a Cannon Fodder For the Rich and Powerful
This novel, "Dressed As a Cannon Fodder For the Rich and Powerful," definitely took me on a rollercoaster. It's a story with a lot of potential, and while it has its charms, it also stumbles in a few key areas.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. The idea of a protagonist transmigrating from the Republic of China era into a modern-day entertainment world is intriguing. The early chapters drew me in with their romantic pace and hints of mystery. I appreciated the focus on the protagonist's career, especially with his background as an opera singer. This aspect felt fresh and offered a lot of possibilities.
What Works Well
The protagonist's initial maturity and calm demeanor were appealing. I also enjoyed the moments where the male lead showed genuine understanding and warmth, moving beyond the typical cold CEO archetype. The dynamic between them, at its best, felt like a sweet and slightly sour lemonade – refreshing and engaging. I thought the author did a good job in showing the MC and ML understanding one another. There are also some fun side characters like the dog and the enemy turned friend.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progressed, I found myself getting increasingly frustrated. The plot felt inconsistent, with several storylines introduced and then abruptly abandoned. The protagonist, initially presented as clever, sometimes made baffling decisions that seemed out of character. The male lead's personality shift also felt jarring and abrupt, going from cold to overly affectionate.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several plot points felt unresolved. The divorce arc, for instance, was handled poorly. The misunderstanding that led to it was never fully addressed, and the subsequent reconciliation felt rushed and unearned. I also found the ending to be somewhat abrupt, with several character arcs left incomplete. The reborn villain's storyline, the protagonist's family, and the details of the male lead's past are all touched upon but never fully explored.
Final Verdict
"Dressed As a Cannon Fodder For the Rich and Powerful" is a mixed bag. While it has moments of sweetness and intrigue, the inconsistent plot, character inconsistencies, and unresolved storylines ultimately left me feeling unfulfilled. It's a light read that might appeal to those looking for a simple romance, but be prepared to turn off your brain and overlook some significant flaws. I'd give it a tentative 3 out of 5 stars.
