My Thoughts on Do You Want to Hold Your Wife?
Do You Want to Hold Your Wife? promised a fluffy, historical fantasy romance, and for the most part, it delivered. It's a completed original novel with an ongoing translation, so diving in now means you'll have plenty to read. The story centers around a transmigrated omega MC and his relationship with a strong, doting ML in ancient China, and while it has its issues, the overall experience was enjoyable.
First Impressions
My initial reaction to the MC was a bit mixed. He definitely starts off as a fish out of water, and some of his early reactions to the unfamiliar setting felt a little… harsh. He's thrown into a completely different world and culture, and dealing with the shift isn't easy.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its slice-of-life elements and the development of the central romance. Once the initial culture shock wears off, the MC begins to adapt, and the dynamic between him and the ML becomes genuinely sweet. I particularly enjoyed the familial love aspect – the ML's family is incredibly supportive and doting towards the MC. It's heartwarming to see such positive in-law relationships. The story really shines when it focuses on the everyday life of the characters, their growing bond, and the eventual addition of adorable children to the family. The business aspects woven into the narrative also added an interesting layer.
Areas of Concern
The biggest point of contention seems to be the MC's initial behavior. Some found him to be overly rude and ungrateful, especially in the early chapters. I can see where they're coming from; his reactions are sometimes a bit extreme. However, I also think it's important to consider the context – he's an omega from a modern era suddenly thrust into a patriarchal society. There are also mentions of plot holes throughout the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviewers mentioned that the story has a fast-paced ending with the MC returning to his world and meeting the ML in his world. It is unclear if the ML reincarnated.
Final Verdict
Despite some initial reservations about the MC's behavior, Do You Want to Hold Your Wife? ultimately won me over with its fluff, sweet romance, and focus on familial love. If you're looking for a low-conflict, slice-of-life story with a doting ML and adorable children, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for a bit of a bumpy start with the MC's initial adjustment period.
