My Thoughts on Dangerous Personality
"Dangerous Personality" is a novel that grabbed my attention with its blend of crime, romance, and a touch of the supernatural. The premise alone, featuring protagonists who are essentially geniuses with a high degree of self-awareness, was enough to pique my interest. After diving in, I found a story that's both intriguing and, at times, surprisingly funny.
First Impressions
I was immediately drawn to the unique dynamic between the MC and ML. The "ice cube MC x flirty ML" trope is a classic, but the author executes it exceptionally well here. The cases they tackle together are also quite compelling, and I appreciated that I could actually follow the clues and make my own (often incorrect!) deductions along the way.
What Works Well
What I loved most was the seamless blend of genres. It's a crime novel at its core, with well-written cases that delve into raw human themes, but the comedic undertones and the sweet, developing relationship between the leads prevent it from becoming too heavy. I found the pacing smooth and engaging, making it easy to get lost in the story. The main characters are well-developed, too. I particularly enjoyed watching the MC's growth as he learns to navigate emotions and connect with others, despite his apathetic nature. The ML is a refreshing green flag, and their interactions are both heartwarming and hilarious.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, I did find a few minor issues. Some plot points, such as the origin of the MC's powers, felt a bit underdeveloped. Also, the portrayal of mental health felt somewhat lacking in nuance.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Proceed with caution; spoilers ahead!
One particular plot point involved the ML proposing with a knife, which I found both hilarious and slightly disturbing! Also, the overarching plot reveals a connection between all the cases and a mastermind with a tragic backstory, which ties into the leads' own past trauma.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Dangerous Personality" is a satisfying and entertaining read. It offers a compelling blend of crime, romance, and humor, with well-developed characters and intriguing cases. While it may not be perfect, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. If you're looking for a crime novel with a unique twist and a sweet, unconventional romance, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared for some depictions of cruelty and the occasional moment of gore!
