My Thoughts on Certificate of Conformity
"Certificate of Conformity" is definitely a novel that leaves a lasting impression. It's a wild ride with a unique premise and even more unique characters. If you're looking for a typical romance with fluffy moments, this isn't it. But if you're intrigued by morally grey characters navigating a twisted world, keep reading.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the concept of a cold, calculating protagonist forced into a system against his will. The setup is dark and intriguing, with a genius inventor seeking revenge and getting caught in a web of transmigration and predetermined plots. The early chapters grabbed my attention with the promise of a truly unfeeling MC.
What Works Well
The biggest strength of this novel lies in its main character, Chen Heng. He's a true anti-hero, intelligent and ruthless, with a distinct lack of empathy. His actions, while sometimes disturbing, are consistently fascinating. I particularly enjoyed how he manipulated situations to his advantage, often with a charming smile that belied his true intentions. The dynamic between Chen Heng and the male lead, Qi Wei, is equally compelling. Their relationship is far from conventional, filled with obsession, possessiveness, and a constant push and pull. It's a chaotic and messy dynamic, but it's what makes their story so captivating. The plot arcs themselves are creative and offer a twisted take on familiar tropes. The author isn't afraid to explore dark themes and challenge the reader's expectations.
Areas of Concern
While the initial premise is strong, I did notice a slight dip in quality as the story progressed. The MC, while remaining intelligent, seemed to lose some of his initial edge, becoming more mellow and, dare I say, a bit generic towards the end. The introduction of a "curse" requiring physical intimacy felt like a somewhat forced plot device to soften the MC's character.

Some readers might find the non-consensual elements and the ML's initial actions problematic. The story begins with the ML drugging and assaulting the MC in the real world, which is a significant hurdle to overcome for many. Despite its flaws, "Certificate of Conformity" is a worthwhile read if you're looking for something different. The complex characters, twisted plotlines, and dark themes make it a memorable experience. Just be prepared for a bumpy ride and a romance that defies all conventional expectations. I'd recommend it to readers who enjoy morally ambiguous characters and don't mind exploring darker themes.
