My Thoughts on After the Cannon Fodder’s Rebirth
"After the Cannon Fodder’s Rebirth" is quite the rollercoaster! It's a wild ride through different worlds, each with its own unique flavor of angst, revenge, and surprisingly, a fair bit of humor. I went in expecting a standard quick transmigration novel, but I came out with a lot more to think about than I initially anticipated.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, I was drawn in by the MC, He Ziming. He's not your typical goody-two-shoes protagonist. He's cunning, a bit twisted, and unapologetically himself. The initial setup – a soul bound to a system, traveling to different worlds – is familiar, but the execution felt fresh. The first few arcs grabbed my attention with their blend of dog-blood drama and satisfying face-slapping.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its world-hopping adventures. Each arc feels distinct, and I appreciated the author's creativity in crafting unique scenarios. The MC's ability to manipulate situations and get under people's skin is fascinating to watch. I found myself rooting for him as he navigated complex relationships and exacted revenge on those who deserved it.
The dynamic between the MC and the ML is also a major draw. Their relationship is far from simple, filled with love, hate, and a whole lot of emotional baggage. The ML's fear of thunder becomes a recurring motif, adding a touch of vulnerability to his otherwise stoic persona.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I did have some reservations about the ending. It felt a bit abrupt, and the amnesia trope, while offering a clean slate for the MC and ML, left me wanting more closure. I also felt the romance could have been more developed.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's talk about the ending. The MC wakes up with amnesia, and it's a point of contention. The final arc reveals the MC's tragic backstory and the ML's role in it. The amnesia ending is a way for them to have a fresh start, but it also negates the MC's character growth.
Final Verdict
Despite my reservations about the ending and the sometimes-lacking romance, I would still recommend "After the Cannon Fodder’s Rebirth." It's a well-written and engaging novel with a unique protagonist and a compelling plot. If you're a fan of dog-blood drama, cunning MCs, and morally grey relationships, this might just be your cup of tea. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
