My Thoughts on Always with the Old Attack
"Always with the Old Attack" is a quick transmigration romance that definitely has its charms, and while it wasn't a perfect read for me, I can see why it's garnered a dedicated following. The premise is intriguing: a calm and clever MC navigating different worlds, each with a love interest who falls hard and fast. I found myself drawn in by the episodic nature of the story, eager to see what scenario the MC would find himself in next.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a little thrown off by the pacing. Some of the early arcs felt rushed, with more telling than showing, which made it difficult to fully invest in the world and the characters. The translation also felt a little clunky at times, which made it harder to fully immerse myself in the story.
What Works Well
Despite the initial hiccups, the story really started to shine as it progressed. I appreciated the variety of the arcs, each offering a unique setting and challenge for the MC. The dynamic between the MC and ML is undeniably sweet and fluffy, and I enjoyed how the ML consistently fell for the MC in each world. There's a certain comfort in knowing that their love story will be a constant, even as their circumstances change. I also liked that the MC wasn't overly focused on revenge or bogged down by angst, making for a lighter and more enjoyable read.
Areas of Concern
While the "no angst" approach was refreshing, it also meant that the story sometimes felt a bit too smooth. The MC often overcame obstacles with ease, thanks to his inherent abilities and the support of the ML, which made the stakes feel somewhat low. I also felt that some aspects of the plot, such as the MC's knowledge of meridian manipulation, were not adequately explained. Finally, the ending felt abrupt and could have benefited from more closure.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find the initial arc problematic due to the ML's initial actions. Also, the summary spoils a major plot point regarding the ML's awareness across different worlds.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Always with the Old Attack" is an entertaining and fluffy read, perfect for those seeking a quick and easy romance with a clever MC and a doting ML. While it has its flaws, the sweet love story and the intriguing episodic format kept me engaged. If you're looking for a lighthearted and low-angst quick transmigration novel, this might just be the story for you. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
