My Thoughts on After the Almighty Cannon Fodder is Reborn
This novel, "After the Almighty Cannon Fodder is Reborn," definitely left me with mixed feelings. It's a rebirth story with a calm and cunning protagonist, but some aspects didn't quite hit the mark for me.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A reborn character navigating the entertainment industry with a second chance sounds like a fun ride. The tags promised a confident and charming protagonist, and a devoted love interest, which are always appealing. However, as I delved deeper, some red flags started popping up.
What Works Well
I did appreciate the ML's character. He's portrayed as a cold CEO type but has moments of insecurity that add depth. I found that to be a nice touch. Some readers also mentioned enjoying the romance progression, although it was slow, and the ending was cute. The idea of a slow-burn romance with characters who have personal hurdles to overcome is appealing.
Areas of Concern
Okay, let's talk about the elephants in the room. The "OP-ness" of the MC felt a bit much. He's suddenly a master of everything – car racing, piano, guzheng, sword fighting – which strains believability. It felt like his skills were conveniently showcased to make him shine, rather than naturally developed.
Then there's the portrayal of disability. It's uncomfortable and outdated and it's a recurring theme in multiple reviews. The constant emphasis on the ML's wheelchair and the negative connotations surrounding it were jarring and, frankly, offensive. It left a bad taste in my mouth. The cultural context doesn't excuse the insensitive portrayal.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
(Highlight to reveal spoilers)
Several reviewers mentioned the adoption trope and how the parents favored the younger son, leading to the older brothers' less desirable traits. The MC's half-brother is also introduced and then fades away, and the system he has becomes almost nonexistent. These plot threads felt unresolved and unsatisfying.
Final Verdict
"After the Almighty Cannon Fodder is Reborn" has potential, but it's bogged down by problematic portrayals and plot conveniences. While the romance and ML had their charms, the issues surrounding disability and the MC's overwhelming abilities overshadowed the positives. I can't wholeheartedly recommend this one.
