My Thoughts on After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy
"After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy" is a web novel I dove into with a mix of curiosity and trepidation, given the somewhat polarizing opinions surrounding it. It's a story that blends rebirth, arranged marriage, and business intrigue in a futuristic setting, promising a unique take on the yaoi genre. While it has some undeniable strengths, I also found myself echoing some of the concerns raised by other readers.
First Impressions
The initial premise is undeniably captivating. A protagonist reborn and thrust into a marriage with a deadly enemy? Sign me up! The world-building, particularly the Alpha-Omega dynamics, felt fresh and intriguing. I was eager to see how the author would navigate the complexities of this relationship and the protagonist's second chance at life.
What Works Well
I appreciated the fast-paced nature of the story. It wastes no time getting into the thick of things, which kept me engaged. The protagonist's cleverness and cunning in business were definitely highlights, and I enjoyed watching him turn the tables on his enemies. The side characters, especially the younger siblings, added a touch of levity and warmth to the narrative. The revenge plot was also satisfying, delivering the expected "face-slapping" moments with flair. Furthermore, skipping over the emotional turmoil of the A to O transition, since it was the MC's second time, added to the story instead of making it too angsty.
Areas of Concern
While the fast pace kept me entertained, it also felt like some aspects of the story were glossed over. The romance, in particular, felt rushed and somewhat forced. I struggled to fully invest in the relationship between the main characters, as the chemistry seemed lacking. I would have liked more development of the ML's feelings, as the MC's feelings felt a little abrupt. The ending also felt abrupt and rushed, which was a letdown after investing time in the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers pointed out that the ending felt incomplete due to real-life issues the author was facing, leading to a rushed conclusion that didn't fully explore the potential of the characters and their relationships. I also noticed that the resolution of the MC's relationship with his grandfather felt a little too convenient.
Final Verdict
Overall, "After Rebirth, Married to a Deadly Enemy" is a decent read with an interesting premise and satisfying revenge plot. However, the rushed romance and abrupt ending prevent it from reaching its full potential. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a quick and engaging read with a focus on business and revenge, but be prepared for some shortcomings in the romantic development and overall resolution. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
