My Thoughts on After Genderswap Reincarnation, I Raised the Strongest Player
"After Genderswap Reincarnation, I Raised the Strongest Player" is definitely a novel that grabbed my attention with its unusual premise. A gender-bent future self traveling back in time to raise their past self? It's the kind of wacky concept that either works brilliantly or falls flat on its face. So, how did it fare?
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit hesitant about the self-cest aspect. It's a niche trope, to say the least, and I wasn't sure if it would be off-putting. The first few chapters certainly throw you into the deep end with the dynamic between the MC and their past self. However, I found myself surprisingly drawn into the story, and after a while, I stopped thinking of them as the same person entirely.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in the unique relationship between the MC and ML. It's fascinating to watch the dynamic unfold as the future self guides and protects their younger version. The author does a great job of portraying the MC's maturity and calm demeanor against the past self's naivety and hot-bloodedness. It's like watching a dream girl/boy-meets-boy story play out, with the added layer of self-discovery and acceptance.
I also appreciated the blend of action and slice-of-life moments. The world-hopping, mission-based gameplay elements add a thrilling layer to the story, but the quieter moments allow for character development and relationship building.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I can't ignore some of the criticisms I've seen. The world-building is definitely lacking. The setting feels vague, and I wish there had been more details about the world and its countries.
Also, the ending seemed rushed. Many readers felt that the author was too ambitious with the setting, leading to a hurried conclusion. It's a shame because the first half of the novel had great pacing, but the latter half suffers from a lack of development for side characters and plot threads.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
There are a few mentions of specific plot points and character abilities that could be considered spoilers. Be cautious if you're sensitive to these things.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "After Genderswap Reincarnation, I Raised the Strongest Player" is a unique and entertaining read. The self-cest premise might not be for everyone, but if you're open to it, you might find yourself surprisingly invested in the characters and their journey. I give it a solid recommendation, just be aware of the rushed ending and underdeveloped world.
