My Thoughts on After Being Marked by a Powerful Love Rival
"After Being Marked by a Powerful Love Rival" sounded right up my alley, a blend of comedy, fantasy, romance, and the ever-intriguing omegaverse. The "love rival to lovers" trope is one I often enjoy, so I jumped in with high hopes.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were a bit of a rollercoaster. I can see why some readers found the setup a little absurd, with the quick slide into a one-night stand fueled by mistaken identity. The ML's initial behavior definitely leans into the "bratty tyrant" territory, and I wasn't immediately sold on his possessiveness. The MC's calm demeanor also struck me as perhaps a bit too passive in the beginning.
What Works Well
Despite my initial reservations, the story has some real strengths. I appreciated the MC's grounded reaction to becoming an omega; he doesn't suddenly morph into a completely different person, which feels much more realistic than some omegaverse stories I've read. The ML's actions can be frustrating at times. His possessiveness sometimes crosses the line into being overbearing and disrespectful. I also found the handling of the "white lotus" love rival a bit underdeveloped. The plot twist involving the MC's family background felt somewhat melodramatic and unnecessary.
