My Thoughts on Acting Like a Cannon Fodder is the Best Life
"Acting Like a Cannon Fodder is the Best Life" promised a fluffy, lighthearted read, and for the most part, it delivered. However, like any novel, it had its strengths and weaknesses, and I'm here to break them down.
First Impressions
Going in, I knew this was a "junk food" novel, something to enjoy without needing to think too hard. The premise of a protagonist deliberately acting like a spoiled cannon fodder to secure a divorce settlement definitely piqued my interest. I was prepared for clichés and a bit of over-the-top sweetness, but I was hoping for some genuine charm along the way.
What Works Well
The core of this novel is the relationship between the MC, Yan Yan, and the ML, Ji Juechuan. Many readers, including myself, found their interactions to be incredibly cute and fluffy. There's a certain appeal to the dynamic, especially as Ji Juechuan slowly falls for Yan Yan's act. I found myself enjoying the simple, everyday moments and the gradual development of their feelings. I also appreciated that the story largely avoids unnecessary drama or frustrating villains, creating a relaxing reading experience. The translation quality was also a plus, making the story flow smoothly.
Areas of Concern
While the fluff is enjoyable, I can see why some readers found the story lacking in substance. The plot is fairly straightforward, and the side characters could have been more developed. I also noticed that some felt the MC's beauty was constantly mentioned to the point of being repetitive and distracting, which I agree with to some extent. The MC's naivete, while part of his act, could also be frustrating at times, especially when it hindered communication between him and the ML. The pacing also seemed to become an issue for some, with the story dragging on unnecessarily in the middle.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out that the MC's plan to get divorced is based on his preconceived notions of the original novel's plot, which might not be accurate in his current reality. This creates a disconnect, as he continues to pursue his goal even when the ML clearly shows affection.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Acting Like a Cannon Fodder is the Best Life" is a decent choice if you're looking for a light, fluffy romance with a cute protagonist and a doting love interest. However, if you prefer complex plots, strong character development, and logical relationship building, this might not be the novel for you. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5. It's a fun, easy read, but it's not without its flaws.
