My Thoughts on Absolute Great Teacher
"Absolute Great Teacher" is a web novel that I approached with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. The premise of a modern-day teacher transmigrating to another world with a system is a familiar one, but I was hoping for a fresh take. After diving in, I found a story with some definite strengths, but also some significant weaknesses.
First Impressions
Initially, I wasn't entirely sold. The early chapters felt derivative, leaning heavily on tropes from similar novels like "Library of Heaven's Path." Some elements felt like a direct lift, and the world-building seemed a bit haphazard. I was tempted to drop it, but I decided to push through, hoping it would find its own footing.
What Works Well
As I continued, the novel started to carve out its own identity. I appreciated that the protagonist, Sun Mo, remained relatively consistent in his base of operations, focusing on improving his school rather than constantly hopping between kingdoms. The system, while a significant "cheat," didn't completely overshadow his own efforts and growth. I found the interactions between Sun Mo and his students to be a highlight, especially the development of their individual talents, even if they weren't all cultivation prodigies. The novel also does a great job of making each cultivation advancement feel satisfying. The slow pace allows the reader to really appreciate the growth of the characters.
Areas of Concern
However, there were aspects that detracted from my enjoyment. The pacing, while appreciated by some, often felt too slow, with events dragging on for dozens of chapters. I also noticed a tendency for the author to introduce interesting characters or plot threads only to abandon them later on. Some found the villains to be poorly written, with their motivations often unclear.
