This installment in the "Mistaken Marriage Match" series definitely stands apart from its prequels, diving headfirst into a darker, more dramatic narrative. Buckle up, because this isn't your typical lighthearted historical romance.
First Impressions
Going in, I knew this story wasn't a transmigration tale, which piqued my interest. Qing Feng, unlike her sisters, is a "native" to this world, and her journey through the treacherous imperial harem is fraught with hardship. From the very beginning, I felt a sense of unease, a premonition that things were going to get rough. And they did. The emperor, Yan Hong Tian, comes across as cold and even cruel initially, making it difficult to root for their relationship. I instantly wanted to smack him with a brick.
