While I initially wasn't sure what to expect, I ended up appreciating its realistic portrayal of palace life.

I found this refreshing, and her modern mindset adapting to ancient customs was fascinating to watch. The josei genre tag is spot on, as the story delves into the intricacies of relationships and survival within a complex social structure.

What really stood out to me was the intricate relationship between Shen Moyun and the Emperor. It's not a fairytale romance, but a pragmatic connection built on mutual respect and the shared responsibility of raising their children. The children are a lovely addition to the story, and I enjoyed seeing their interactions with their mother and the Emperor.
