My Thoughts on A Boy Who Wants to Create a Yandere Harem and The Yandere Girls Who Want to Monopolize Him
This web novel is a wild ride from start to finish. It’s the kind of story you pick up when you want to switch your brain off and just enjoy some chaotic, over-the-top fun. While it definitely won't win any awards for realism, its sheer absurdity is its greatest strength.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the title alone – it's certainly attention-grabbing! The premise of a protagonist actively pursuing a yandere harem is so bizarre that I had to know where it would go. I quickly found myself chuckling at the sheer ridiculousness of it all. The early chapters establish the MC as a surprisingly decent guy, despite his unusual desires, which made me more invested in his… peculiar… goals.
What Works Well
The novel's greatest strength lies in its comedic timing and its willingness to embrace absurdity. The protagonist's nonchalant attitude in the face of increasingly unhinged situations is hilarious. The author masterfully plays with yandere tropes, turning them on their head and creating genuinely funny scenarios. The action sequences are also a highlight, with the harem members battling it out for the MC's affection in increasingly creative and over-the-top ways. The story doesn't take itself seriously, and that's precisely why it works. It's a lighthearted romp that provides plenty of laughs.
Areas of Concern
If I had to level any criticism, it would be that the plot can feel a bit too convenient at times. The protagonist's seemingly endless list of skills and abilities can feel like a bit of a crutch, resolving conflicts a little too easily. Also, while the yandere antics are entertaining, I would have liked to see a bit more focus on the actual romance and character development. Some may find the lack of realism off-putting, but I think that's part of the charm.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, so there are some spoilers to be aware of. Apparently, the MC saves a God from Truck-kun and gets his yandere harem wish granted as a reward! Also, the harem members include his stepsister, childhood friend, the student council vice president, and even Hanako of the toilet (yes, a ghost!).
Final Verdict
Overall, "A Boy Who Wants to Create a Yandere Harem and The Yandere Girls Who Want to Monopolize Him" is a fun, chaotic, and ultimately enjoyable read. If you're looking for a deep, thought-provoking story, this isn't it. But if you want a lighthearted comedy with plenty of absurd situations and over-the-top characters, then I highly recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and embrace the madness!
