My Thoughts on Seiju no Kuni no Kinju Tsukai
"Seiju no Kuni no Kinju Tsukai" is a web novel that certainly evokes strong opinions, and diving in, I can see why. It's a mixed bag of familiar isekai tropes, some interesting world-building, and a protagonist that seems to be the main point of contention.
First Impressions
Initially, I found myself struggling to connect with the story. The premise – an adult regressing into a younger body with newfound powers – is interesting, but the execution felt a bit shaky. The early chapters rely heavily on clichés, particularly the "accidental pervert" trope and misunderstandings, which can be quite grating. The pacing also felt slow, with a lot of time spent on internal monologues and repetitive scenarios.
What Works Well
Despite my initial reservations, there are elements of "Seiju no Kuni no Kinju Tsukai" that I found promising. The world-building, while still surface-level, has potential. There are hints of mysteries and serious action that could develop into a compelling narrative. Some readers have also praised the female characters, noting their potential for further development and likability. Also, some readers have noted that the MC does have character development as the story progresses.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and one that seems to be shared by many, is the protagonist. The MC's personality feels inconsistent. Supposedly an adult, he often acts like a naive and indecisive teenager. This disconnect between his supposed age and his actions can be frustrating. His constant internal contradictions and reliance on others to solve his problems make it difficult to root for him. The way he obtains his powers also feels somewhat contrived and illogical.
Final Verdict
"Seiju no Kuni no Kinju Tsukai" is a novel with potential, but it's held back by its reliance on clichés and an inconsistent protagonist. If you can overlook these flaws, there's a decent story to be found, especially if you enjoy harem elements and a lighthearted fantasy setting. However, be prepared for a slow burn and a protagonist that may test your patience. For me, it's a 3/5 - an okay read to pass the time, but not something I'd highly recommend.
