My Thoughts on You’re My Glory
Gu Man has done it again! "You’re My Glory" is a delightful story that had me hooked from the start. It’s a blend of comedy, romance, and slice-of-life that feels both fluffy and surprisingly mature.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a bit wary. The synopsis seemed a bit cliché: a famous actress reconnects with her high school crush through an online game. However, I quickly found myself drawn into the characters and their individual struggles. The female lead, Qiao Jing Jing, is a celebrity who needs to improve her gaming skills for an upcoming tournament, and the male lead, Yu Tu, becomes her coach. It’s a fun premise, and the execution is even better.
What Works Well
What I appreciated most was the realism. Yu Tu isn’t your typical overbearing CEO. He's an aerospace engineer torn between pursuing his passion and the societal pressure to earn a stable income. This internal conflict resonated with me. Qiao Jing Jing is also a refreshing character. She's hardworking, smart, and not afraid to take initiative. I really enjoyed seeing her actively pursue Yu Tu, confessing her feelings not once, but twice! Their relationship felt natural and their dialogue was engaging. The gaming aspect is well-integrated into the story, and even if you're not a gamer, the author does a good job of explaining the game mechanics. The overall plot is fairly simple, but it's executed so well that it feels heartwarming and genuine. It's a story about supporting each other's dreams and finding someone who believes in you, even when you doubt yourself.
