My Thoughts on Why is the Holy Son So Delicate?
This novel was quite a ride! I went in expecting a lighthearted comedy and, for the most part, that's exactly what I got. It's definitely not high literature, but sometimes you just need a story that's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing: a protagonist transmigrating into a cannon fodder role, determined to avoid a gruesome fate. The initial chapters hooked me with the humor and the dynamic between the MC and the ML, Lucifer. I was immediately invested in seeing how the MC would navigate this new world and how their relationship would develop.
What Works Well
The comedy is definitely a strong point. The MC's denseness, combined with Lucifer's constant attempts at seduction, creates some genuinely hilarious situations. I found myself laughing out loud at several points, especially during the extras. The characters are also quite endearing, even with their flaws. The MC's dedication, even if misguided at times, is admirable, and Lucifer's devotion is surprisingly sweet. The overall tone is fluffy and feel-good, making it a great read when you need a pick-me-up.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the humor, the central misunderstanding between the characters did drag on a bit too long. It felt like the plot was being artificially stretched out, and I found myself getting impatient for them to finally communicate properly. Some plot points felt rushed or not fully explored, especially towards the end. The resolution of the main conflict felt a little too easy, and I wish there had been more emotional depth in the aftermath.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several reviewers mentioned Lucifer's true identity as the Demon King, and how this secret leads to significant misunderstandings. It's a major plot point that drives much of the story, so be aware that it's revealed relatively early on. Some readers also expressed concerns about a particular plot development involving Lucifer and the "fruit of life," finding it uncomfortable or crossing a boundary for them.
Final Verdict
Despite some flaws, "Why is the Holy Son So Delicate?" is an enjoyable and entertaining read. If you're looking for a lighthearted comedy with a cute romance and don't mind a bit of silliness, this novel is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared for some frustrating misunderstandings and a plot that might not be the most tightly woven. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
