My Thoughts on Vase Cannon Fodder Is Pampered by the Group Again
"Vase Cannon Fodder Is Pampered by the Group Again" promised a fluffy, lighthearted read, and while it delivered on some of those promises, it also stumbled in a few key areas that left me feeling a little underwhelmed. It's one of those stories where your enjoyment will likely hinge on how much you appreciate a heavy dose of doting and a protagonist who's… well, let's just say endearingly naive.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise. A cannon fodder character realizing their role and trying to break free from the predetermined plot? Sounds like a fun ride! The tags also promised a heavy emphasis on family and romantic interests showering the MC with affection, which is something I often enjoy as a palate cleanser between more intense reads.
What Works Well
The novel definitely succeeds in creating a world where the protagonist is surrounded by people who adore him. If you're looking for a story where the MC is constantly coddled and supported, this might be right up your alley. The humor, while not laugh-out-loud funny for me, was decent enough to keep me engaged. I also appreciated that the male lead, despite being somewhat pushy, wasn't abusive or problematic in a way that made me uncomfortable. The side romances for the brother and best friend were a nice touch, adding a little more depth to the overall narrative.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue lies with the protagonist himself. His naivete often bordered on unbelievable, and his lack of agency made it difficult for me to truly connect with him. It felt like his life was constantly being dictated by others, and he rarely pushed back, even when he clearly wasn't happy. This also impacted the romance, as his innocence made it hard to believe he could genuinely understand the feelings directed towards him. The plot also felt underdeveloped, especially with the main antagonist disappearing relatively early on. The "cannon fodder" aspect of the story felt almost meaningless, as the original plot was quickly discarded.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have expressed concerns about the treatment of the original shou and the implications of the transmigrator taking over their life. Additionally, there are some potentially triggering elements related to a character "accidentally" causing harm to the MC and the over-the-top reactions that follow.
Final Verdict
"Vase Cannon Fodder Is Pampered by the Group Again" is a fairly standard example of its genre. If you're looking for a light, fluffy read with a heavy emphasis on doting and don't mind a somewhat passive protagonist, you might find it enjoyable. However, if you prefer more complex characters and a well-developed plot, this might not be the story for you. I'd rate it a solid 3 out of 5 stars – enjoyable in parts, but ultimately forgettable.
