My Thoughts on The Return of the Noble Abandoned Consort
"The Return of the Noble Abandoned Consort" promised a fun blend of historical romance, comedy, and a clever female lead – and it mostly delivered! I found myself chuckling at the fish-out-of-water situations our modern MC, Qiao Wei, landed in after transmigrating with her two adorable twins.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. A doctor from the modern world suddenly finding herself in ancient China with two kids and no memory of her past? Intriguing! The early chapters focused on her resourcefulness, using her modern knowledge to carve out a living and protect her children. It was a breath of fresh air to see a female lead who wasn’t immediately overpowered or reliant on magical abilities.
What Works Well
What I enjoyed most was the MC's journey of building a life for herself and her children. Her cooking skills become her initial ticket to success, and I appreciated that she sought advice from experts instead of magically knowing everything. The twins are also a highlight. One is a clever little schemer, while the other is a sweet, strong-willed child who loves math – a refreshing change from the stereotypical "genius" children often found in these stories. The male lead, while a bit mysterious, is a supportive figure who clearly dotes on the family. The author also creates engaging side characters that add richness to the story.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some aspects a bit jarring. The MC's supposed lack of concern for learning about the customs and taboos of the society she's in felt a bit unrealistic. While her independent spirit is admirable, sometimes her actions seemed reckless, and I wondered if she fully considered the consequences for her children. I also found her relationship with the male lead to be a little ambiguous at times.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers mentioned that the female lead doesn't develop inner energy or kung fu throughout the story, which is unusual for this genre, but I didn't see that as a negative. The story also contains a plot point about the MC's mother, Helan, being a strong and powerful figure.
Final Verdict
Overall, "The Return of the Noble Abandoned Consort" is an entertaining read with a heartwarming story about family, resilience, and finding your place in a new world. While it has some flaws, the clever protagonist, cute children, and engaging plot make it a worthwhile experience. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted historical romance with a strong female lead.
