My Thoughts on The Ideal Mary Sue
Okay, so I dove into The Ideal Mary Sue with a healthy dose of curiosity, especially given the mixed buzz I'd seen. The premise alone – a "scum" female lead in a transmigration story – definitely piqued my interest. I always appreciate a protagonist who isn't afraid to be morally grey, and this one sounded like she could really shake things up.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The first few chapters introduce a female lead who’s definitely not your typical damsel in distress. She's cunning, strategic, and knows how to use her charm to get what she wants. The early plot points, involving a possessive ex-boyfriend and a quick escape into a quick transmigration system, set a fast-paced and somewhat dark tone that I found compelling.
What Works Well
The biggest draw for me is the female lead herself. She's not afraid to be manipulative and uses her intelligence to navigate tricky situations. Many readers seem to appreciate this, and I can definitely see why. It's refreshing to see a female character who isn't just reacting to the world around her but actively shaping it to her advantage. My main issue, and it seems I'm not alone here, is the ending. Or rather, the abrupt lack thereof. The story concludes at chapter 81, but it feels more like a pause than a resolution. Several plot threads are left dangling, and I was definitely left wanting more closure. It felt like the author just decided to stop, leaving a lot of potential unexplored. Additionally, while I enjoyed the FL's cunning, I can see how some might find her reliance on her "golden finger" a bit too convenient, especially later in the story. It occasionally undermines her own cleverness.
