My Thoughts on The General’s Cat Always Wants To Climb Into My Bed
First Impressions
Okay, so I went into "The General’s Cat Always Wants To Climb Into My Bed" expecting a light and fluffy read, maybe something to giggle at before bed. The title definitely screams "adorable misunderstandings," and the summary seemed to confirm that. I was pleasantly surprised, though, to find a story with significantly more depth than I initially anticipated.
What Works Well
The biggest win for me was the character development. The MC is incredibly likeable, even with his amnesia-induced naiveté. He’s a total fanboy for the General, and it’s genuinely endearing. The ML, despite being an "OP" general, feels surprisingly human. His inner thoughts and shameless actions (especially in cat form!) are hilarious, and I really appreciated his self-awareness. The dynamic between the MC and his sister also adds a heartwarming touch.
The plot also grabbed me. There's a surprising amount of political intrigue woven into the story. The mystery surrounding the MC's lost memories and the events leading up to his amnesia kept me hooked. I found myself eager to uncover the secrets of his past and the conspiracies at play.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I did find some aspects a little lacking. The shifts in tone could be jarring. The novel transitions from fluffy, comedic moments to intense, dramatic scenes rather abruptly, which sometimes threw me off. I feel like it could have used some smoother segues.
Also, I think that the integration of the cat form felt a bit underdeveloped. Given the title, I expected the ML's feline antics to play a bigger role in the plot.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find elements of in*est disturbing, as it is implied between some characters. Also, the actions of the main characters regarding their misunderstanding to be both a little bit... naive? A little bit too contrived on the part of the author; they both clearly confessed yet couldn't trust each other.
Final Verdict
Despite a few minor drawbacks, "The General’s Cat Always Wants To Climb Into My Bed" is a surprisingly engaging read. It's definitely more than just a fluffy romance, offering a compelling blend of comedy, mystery, and political intrigue. If you're looking for a story with well-developed characters, a captivating plot, and a healthy dose of humor, I'd recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared for a bit of a rollercoaster ride!
