My Thoughts on The Correct Strategy to Approach the Yandere Supporting Male Lead
This novel was quite the ride! "The Correct Strategy to Approach the Yandere Supporting Male Lead" promises a unique twist on the yandere trope, and for the most part, it delivers. It's a story that balances dark themes with surprisingly sweet moments, leaving me with a bittersweet feeling long after I finished reading.
First Impressions
Right from the start, I was hooked. The premise of a protagonist tasked with capturing the heart of a yandere second male lead in an ancient Chinese setting is intriguing. Li Ruoshui, our female lead, is immediately thrown into a world of danger and intrigue. The male lead, Lu Zhi Yao, is a blind martial artist with a tragic backstory, making him a compelling, if terrifying, love interest.
What Works Well
What truly shines is the character development, particularly Lu Zhi Yao's. The author does a fantastic job of exploring the reasons behind his twisted personality without excusing his actions. Watching him slowly learn to love and care for Li Ruoshui, despite his initial tendencies, is incredibly satisfying. I especially appreciated that Li Ruoshui never tries to fundamentally change him. She accepts him for who he is, guiding him towards a healthier understanding of love.
The romance itself is a slow burn, which I greatly enjoyed. It feels organic and believable, as both characters evolve and adapt to each other. Li Ruoshui's grounded personality, her desire to return to her family, and her ability to navigate dangerous situations make her a refreshing female lead. I also liked that she's not overly powerful, relying on her wits and instincts to survive.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the emotional depth of the story, I did find the plot somewhat lacking. The villains are often flat and their motivations aren't always clear. Additionally, the female lead is frequently kidnapped or poisoned, which can become repetitive and detracts from her otherwise capable character.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find the ending controversial. The fact that the male lead distances himself from the female lead so that she can return home to her family. The ending is a HE, but it may feel forced.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "The Correct Strategy to Approach the Yandere Supporting Male Lead" is a worthwhile read, especially if you're a fan of yandere romances. The complex characters, the slow-burn romance, and the exploration of a damaged soul make it a unique and engaging story. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I'd recommend giving it a try!
