My Thoughts on Survival Qualification Test
Survival Qualification Test promised a thrilling blend of genres, and while it delivered on some fronts, it left me with mixed feelings overall. It's a story that throws you headfirst into a series of trials, testing the characters' survival instincts and forcing them to evolve.
First Impressions
Initially, I felt a bit lost. The beginning is disorienting, and it takes a while to piece together what's happening. However, I found that sticking with it paid off as the overarching plot revealed itself. The premise of a survival game, with a cast of characters navigating deadly scenarios, definitely piqued my interest. I was curious to see how the author would weave together the various genres and themes.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely a strong point. I appreciated that they weren't just window dressing but had their own distinct personalities and motivations. The male lead's quiet strength and respect for the MC's decisions were a refreshing dynamic, and I enjoyed their interactions. The "Scooby-gang" dynamic that the MC forms is also a plus if you enjoy team-oriented stories. The plot, while confusing at times, is ultimately rewarding, with a satisfying conclusion that wraps up the mysteries presented throughout the story.
Areas of Concern
Despite the good points, I did find some aspects of the novel less appealing. The "horror" element felt somewhat lacking. While the scenarios had potential for terror, the focus often shifted to team-based conflicts, overshadowing the inherent creepiness. Also, the romantic development between the leads might feel a bit rushed for some, with an instant attraction vibe.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, heads up! There are some major plot reveals that might impact your reading experience if you're not prepared. Proceed with caution!
- It turns out that nobody actually dies in the game! The winners become gods, and the losers get their memories sealed and return to their normal lives.
- The MC and ML are revealed to be two halves of the same being, split apart and then reunited.
Final Verdict
Survival Qualification Test is a unique and engaging read, but it's not without its flaws. If you're looking for a dark survival story with complex characters, a compelling plot, and don't mind a bit of confusion along the way, this might be right up your alley. However, if you're expecting a pure horror experience or dislike team-based narratives, you might want to proceed with caution. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars, acknowledging its strengths while recognizing the areas where it could have been stronger.
