My Thoughts on Son, “Mom” Will Back You
"Son, “Mom” Will Back You" is a wild ride, and I can definitely see why it's garnered such a devoted fanbase. The premise alone is enough to pique anyone's interest: a "mom-fan" chasing after her secretly wealthy actor "son." It's quirky, it's different, and it certainly delivers on the comedy.
First Impressions
Right from the start, I was drawn in by the unique dynamic between Gu Nian, our MC, and Luo Xiu, the ML. Gu Nian's eccentric "mom-fan" persona is hilarious, and the misunderstandings that arise from her treating Luo Xiu like her son, while he secretly harbors feelings for her, are pure gold. It's a refreshing change from the typical romance tropes.
What Works Well
The humor is definitely a standout. Gu Nian's antics and her unwavering support for her "son" had me laughing out loud. I appreciate how the author subverts expectations and avoids clichés, keeping the story fresh and engaging. The characters are well-developed, especially Gu Nian, who is clever, independent, and fiercely protective of those she cares about. Luo Xiu, the black-bellied manipulator, adds another layer of intrigue to the story. His gradual realization of Gu Nian's genuine care for him is heartwarming. The story is light-hearted and fluffy, making it a perfect palate cleanser.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I can understand some of the criticisms raised. The "mom-fan" concept might not resonate with everyone, and some readers may find Gu Nian's actions obsessive or delusional. The plot can feel a bit rushed at times, and some character development could be more fleshed out. Additionally, some readers have found the misunderstandings frustrating or the protagonist's actions questionable.

Some readers have pointed out that Luo Xiu is actually manipulative, but in a way where he sacrifices himself so the FL will "save" him. He allows a picture of him and the FL to be taken where the FL's face is covered and they were heading out a very expensive neighborhood (where they live but the ML is not known to be rich) and is rumored to be a kept man. So the FL decidedly reveals their relationship to save the ML's reputation. Gu Nian's initial interest in Luo Xiu stems from him saving her from suicide, which adds a deeper, more touching dimension to her "mom-fan" persona.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "Son, “Mom” Will Back You" is a delightful and entertaining read. The unique premise, engaging characters, and laugh-out-loud humor make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a light-hearted romance with a quirky twist, I highly recommend giving this novel a try.
