My Thoughts on Show Love System
"Show Love System" is quite the ride! I jumped into this novel expecting a fluffy, romantic zombie apocalypse story, and while I definitely got the romance, the apocalypse part… well, let's just say it takes a back seat eventually.
First Impressions
Initially, I was charmed. The premise is intriguing: a system pushes the MC, Shi Lingxi, and the ML, Luo Yuan, into increasingly embarrassing and public displays of affection. The MC is a doctor with a system, and the ML is a stoic but doting love interest; it's a fun dynamic. I found myself chuckling at their interactions and the over-the-top "dog food" moments. The MC's shamelessness is endearing, and I couldn't help but want to protect him from the world.
What Works Well
The romance, without a doubt, is the strongest aspect. The MC and ML are devoted to each other, and there are very few misunderstandings. I appreciated that the MC is portrayed as pragmatic and independent, making his own decisions. Many readers praised the couple's chemistry and how they face challenges side-by-side. The beginning of the story, with its focus on the system's tasks and the initial development of their relationship, is undeniably entertaining. Plus, the world-building in the beginning is detailed, with superhumans, mutant beasts, and plants.
Areas of Concern
However, as the story progresses, it takes a sharp turn. The zombie apocalypse setting fades into the background, replaced by cultivation elements, alchemy, and even world-merging with dinosaur-sized animals. This genre shift felt jarring and disconnected from the initial premise. I can see how some readers might feel like they're reading a completely different novel by the end. Also, the MC becomes a bit of a Mary Sue, mastering skills and comprehending things with unbelievable speed.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out significant plot revelations, including the ML's past lives and the MC's motivations for wanting to resurrect him. Apparently, the MC has travelled through thousands of worlds to find a way to bring the ML back to life. The system itself has a deeper origin, connected to the MC's past regrets. If you're sensitive to spoilers, proceed with caution!
Final Verdict
"Show Love System" is a mixed bag. While the romance is sweet and the initial premise is engaging, the drastic genre shift and the MC's overpowered abilities might not appeal to everyone. If you're looking for a fluffy romance with a unique twist and don't mind a bit of genre-bending, this novel might be worth a try. However, be prepared for a wild ride that veers far from its original zombie apocalypse roots. I'd give it a cautious recommendation, leaning towards a 3.5/5.
