My Thoughts on Self-proclaimed! An Ordinary Demonic Hero’s life ~ The Result of Creating a Cheat Dungeon Despite Being a B-class Demon

This title is a mouthful, isn't it? "Self-proclaimed! An Ordinary Demonic Hero’s life ~ The Result of Creating a Cheat Dungeon Despite Being a B-class Demon" certainly sets expectations, and after diving in, I have some thoughts.

First Impressions

The initial chapters threw me for a loop. The "B-class demon" part of the title feels a bit misleading. Our protagonist is powerful, perhaps because of his upbringing in a dangerous environment. He doesn't really feel B-class, more like an overpowered character who just happens to look relatively human. The story kicks off with him entering the Demon King's castle, which is inexplicably an academy, and then immediately tasked with creating a dungeon. It's a whirlwind of world-building and overpowered-ness right from the start.

What Works Well

The core concept of a protagonist accidentally creating a demon king-level dungeon is intriguing. The story thrives on the protagonist's obliviousness to his own strength. There's a certain charm in watching him bumble through situations, unintentionally dominating everything in his path. If you enjoy stories where the main character is strong from the start and faces little resistance, you'll find enjoyment here.

Areas of Concern

The pacing feels slow, especially considering the protagonist's power level. While some might enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, I found myself wanting more plot progression. The common sense of the MC seems warped due to his upbringing in a dangerous area, and this might be a turnoff for some readers. The "big breasted loli demon queen" trope might also be a point of contention for some.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

The following contains potential spoilers regarding plot points.

The initial plot involves the protagonist entering a demon king's castle, which is an academy, and creating a dungeon, which becomes demon king class, and meeting the demon queen.

Final Verdict

"Self-proclaimed! An Ordinary Demonic Hero’s life ~ The Result of Creating a Cheat Dungeon Despite Being a B-class Demon" is a mixed bag. It offers a fun, if somewhat generic, power fantasy with a protagonist who's strong from the get-go. However, the slow pacing and potentially off-putting tropes might not appeal to everyone. If you're looking for a laid-back, overpowered protagonist story with dungeon elements and don't mind some potentially cringe-worthy moments, this might be worth a try. Otherwise, proceed with caution.

Synopsis

A small dungeon is fine. And yet I create a massive and powerful dungeon. Chrono is an ordinary demon attending a dungeon creation class at the demon lord’s academy. Upon hitting 20 year’s old, Demonic Beings are encouraged to attend the academy and live there while perfecting the art of creating dungeons. Chrono thinks that creating a small dungeon would be sufficient, however, what emerged was an extremely massive dungeon with hundreds of layers. Moreover, the level of the dungeon exceeded the dungeon created by the legendary demon king by a large margin. 「A small dungeon is all that I ask of….!」 Chrono who was looking for an ordinary and comfortable life quickly became the focus of attention of many and quickly rise up within the demonic society. It won’t take long until he was hailed a hero.
