My Thoughts on Reporting, I Have Been Reborn
"Reporting, I Have Been Reborn" is definitely a unique read, pulling together elements of fantasy, romance, and drama with a medical twist. I went into it with high hopes, intrigued by the premise of a reborn protagonist armed with modern medical knowledge in a somewhat…unconventional setting.
First Impressions
The initial chapters grabbed my attention. The concept of a protagonist using her past-life knowledge to navigate a new world, especially in the medical field, is inherently appealing. There's a certain satisfaction in seeing her outsmart those around her with her advanced skills. However, as I delved deeper, I found myself echoing some of the sentiments I've seen others express.
What Works Well
The early romance between the female lead (FL) and male lead (ML) is undeniably a draw. Many readers, including myself, appreciate that the FL takes initiative. The story does a good job of developing the relationship. The FL's dedication to helping others through her medical skills is also a strong point, making her a generally likable character, even if some find her a bit too "saintly" at times.
Areas of Concern
The world-building is where things get a little… wonky. I, too, found myself scratching my head about the setting. It's supposedly set in the year 5019, yet the technology feels like a bizarre mix of futuristic and archaic. You've got interstellar military forces alongside candlelit rooms, which creates a jarring disconnect.
Another point that kept popping up in my mind was the ease with which people accept the FL's medical innovations. While I understand the need for suspension of disbelief in a fantasy setting, the lack of skepticism felt a bit unrealistic. It's as if everyone just blindly accepts her expertise because she's the MC.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have brought up a particular incident involving the FL's past that could be triggering for some. Specifically, there are mentions of a character claiming r*pe. It's important to be aware of this before diving in, as it does add a layer of complexity to the narrative.
Final Verdict
"Reporting, I Have Been Reborn" is a mixed bag. While the romance and the FL's medical prowess are definite strengths, the inconsistent world-building and occasional plot contrivances hold it back. If you're willing to overlook these flaws and enjoy a story with a proactive female lead and a sweet romance, then this might be worth a read. However, be prepared for a slightly bumpy ride along the way.
