My Thoughts on Reborn to Strive
"Reborn to Strive" is a slice-of-life yaoi novel set against the backdrop of China's economic rise. It's a story about second chances, building a better life, and finding love along the way. After diving into this novel, I found myself enjoying the journey of the MC, Shi Zhen, as he navigates his rebirth and strives to create a brighter future for himself and his loved ones.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a protagonist getting a second chance to not only improve his own life but also cherish the love he missed in his previous one. The setting in the burgeoning Chinese economy of the late 20th century felt unique and offered a glimpse into a different time and culture.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its realistic characters and their relationships. Shi Zhen and Guan Baiyu's romance develops gradually and feels authentic. I appreciated that both characters have their own flaws and vulnerabilities, making their connection feel more genuine. The family dynamics are also well-developed, with many supporting characters having their own distinct personalities and motivations. I found the portrayal of the MC's stepfamily particularly interesting, as they are depicted with nuance and complexity rather than as simple villains. The business aspects of the story are also well-detailed, showcasing the MC's hard work and resourcefulness as he builds his wealth from the ground up. It's satisfying to see him succeed through his own efforts, without relying on magical shortcuts.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find that the pacing could be slow at times. The level of detail in describing daily life and business ventures, while adding to the realism, occasionally felt overwhelming. Also, the antagonists in the story are not very well-defined and can feel somewhat stale.

Final Verdict
Overall, "Reborn to Strive" is a worthwhile read for those who enjoy slice-of-life, romance, and business-oriented novels with a focus on character development and realistic relationships. While the pacing may be slow at times, the engaging characters and unique setting make it a memorable story. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
