My Thoughts on Rebirth Of A Virtuous Wife

"Rebirth Of A Virtuous Wife" promised a lighthearted historical romance, and for the most part, it delivered. I found myself charmed by the premise of an average woman transmigrating into ancient China, without any special skills or advantages. It's a refreshing change from the usual Mary Sue protagonists.

First Impressions

Initially, I was drawn in by the humor and the slice-of-life feel. The early chapters were genuinely funny, particularly the interactions between the main character (MC) and her maid. I appreciated that the MC wasn't portrayed as exceptionally beautiful or talented, making her more relatable. It felt like a fun, easy read.

What Works Well

The relationship between the MC and the male lead (ML) is definitely a highlight. Their initial awkwardness felt realistic, and I enjoyed watching them slowly find their way to each other. The ML, despite his cold exterior and mysophobia, is portrayed as deeply devoted to the MC, which is endearing. Many readers praised the author's ironic portrayal of both characters, making their interactions even more delightful. Some also appreciated the lack of major drama and over-the-top scheming, making it a relaxing read. The family dynamics, particularly the MC's relationship with her birth mother, were also a welcome change from the typical evil stepmother trope.

Areas of Concern

However, I did find some aspects of the story less appealing. The MC's passivity bothered me at times. While her "ordinary" nature is initially refreshing, it sometimes veers into being overly timid and indecisive. I also felt that the ML's characterization could have been more developed. His mysophobia, while a key part of his character, sometimes felt overemphasized, and his backstory wasn't explored as deeply as I would have liked.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers who MTL'd the story mentioned dissatisfaction with the ending, feeling that certain plot threads, like the assassination attempt and the looming enemy in the north, were not adequately resolved.

Final Verdict

Overall, I'd say "Rebirth Of A Virtuous Wife" is an enjoyable, fluffy read for those looking for a lighthearted historical romance. While it has its flaws, the charming characters and sweet relationship between the MC and ML make it a worthwhile escape. However, if you're seeking a complex plot or deeply developed characters, you might be left wanting more. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Ever since the Emperor betrothed Lu Shao Qi to Chu Ba Ning, everyone had predicted that she will not be living a long life. Even the biggest casino in the capital city would gamble and make bets about how she would die. The side-concubines gifted to the Prince of Su Wang would also cry and kneel to the ground to hug Lu Shao Qi’s legs, begging for her to not drag them to death with her. Lu Shao Qi complains: Heavens! Is it easy to find a virtuous wife like me? Such a fortune and you don’t know how to appreciate it!
