My Thoughts on Pain Fetish
"Pain Fetish" is a wild ride, to say the least. This novel isn't for the faint of heart; it dives deep into dark themes and explores the complexities of love, hate, and revenge. If you're looking for a light read, steer clear. But if you're prepared for an emotionally intense journey, this might be your cup of tea.
First Impressions
Going in, I knew this was a "wife chasing crematorium" story, so I braced myself for the suffering. The initial chapters are brutal, depicting the ML's abuse of the MC. Some readers might find this difficult to stomach, and I understand that. However, I agree that these early chapters are essential to understanding the characters' motivations and the depth of their pain. It sets the stage for the rollercoaster of emotions to come.
What Works Well
The author excels at creating tension and keeping me invested in the characters' fates. The push and pull between love and hate, the constant betrayals and near-death experiences, kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself sympathizing with both the MC and the ML, even when they were at their worst. That's a testament to the author's skill in crafting flawed and compelling characters. I also appreciated the unique ABO world setting, which added another layer of complexity to their relationship. There are plenty of twists and turns that keep the story from becoming predictable.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel overall, I did have a few minor issues. The ending, while happy, felt a bit rushed and unconvincing to me. I felt like the introduction of the child and the ML's sudden Enigma differentiation was unnecessary and a bit too convenient. Also, while I didn't mind the angst, I can see how some readers might find the amount of torture and suffering to be excessive and unrealistic.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, let's dive into spoiler territory for a moment. Some readers might be turned off by the fact that the MC initially plans a meticulous revenge, but leaves an escape route for the ML in the end. I can see how this could feel anticlimactic or insincere. Also, there's the whole pheromone extraction plotline, which some find contrived and a little too convenient for pushing the MC to forgive the ML.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Pain Fetish" is a compelling and emotionally charged novel that I won't soon forget. I was hooked from beginning to end, even when I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. If you're looking for a dark and angsty read with a guaranteed HE, and you're not afraid to shed a few tears, give this one a try. Just be prepared for a wild ride.
