My Thoughts on Only I Who Got The Initial Job As Demon King
First Impressions
Okay, so Only I Who Got The Initial Job As Demon King immediately grabbed my attention with its premise. A VRMMORPG where the MC starts as the Demon Lord? That's a fun twist on the typical "stuck in a game" or "rising hero" narratives. The idea of playing as the antagonist, the one everyone else is trying to defeat, is genuinely appealing. I dove in expecting a power fantasy with a unique spin, and for the most part, that's what I got.
What Works Well
The core concept is definitely the strongest aspect. The MC's initial job as the Demon King sets him up with some serious advantages right off the bat. We're talking OP items, high-level subordinates, and the kind of raw power you'd expect from the final boss. It's satisfying to see him navigate the world from this position of power, especially since he's not necessarily evil, just... the Demon King. The story also has a pretty calm MC, he doesn't really care about being exposed for being the demon king which is a nice touch.
The idea of normal players becoming his enemies is also interesting. It sets up a dynamic where the MC isn't just mindlessly grinding against NPCs but is actively engaged in a conflict with other players who are also trying to get stronger.
Areas of Concern
One thing that did bother me a bit was the lack of depth in the game elements and VR setting. I felt like the reasons for wanting to be a demon king weren't really fleshed out. I mean, sure, magic powers are cool, but what about the other classes? The world building felt a little thin, and I didn't get a strong sense of the game's overall structure or lore.
Final Verdict
Overall, I'd say Only I Who Got The Initial Job As Demon King is a fun, if somewhat flawed, read. The unique premise and OP protagonist make it an enjoyable power fantasy, but the lack of depth in certain areas holds it back from being truly great. If you're looking for a lighthearted VRMMORPG story with a different perspective, this might be worth checking out.
