My Thoughts on Mysterious Awakening
"Mysterious Awakening" is a novel that grabbed my attention with its unique blend of action, comedy, horror, and the supernatural. It's a wild ride that takes you from the MC's near-death experience to his rise from poverty, all while battling ghosts in a modern-day setting. While it has its flaws, the core story is entertaining and worth checking out.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely intriguing. A calm, clever, and cunning protagonist suddenly thrust into a world of ghosts and supernatural abilities? Sign me up! The "poor to rich" trope is also present, adding another layer to the MC's journey. I was immediately curious to see how the author would weave these elements together.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of "Mysterious Awakening" is its ability to immerse you in the horror. The author's writing style makes it easy to step into the MC's shoes and experience the scares firsthand. The plot keeps you guessing, and the side characters, despite their occasional lack of common sense when facing the MC, have distinct personalities that make them memorable. The MC is ruthless when he needs to be, but also shows a caring side, which makes him a compelling character to follow. The ghost story plot is undeniably cool and keeps you hooked.
Areas of Concern
One of the main sticking points for me was the MC's age. Being a high schooler felt a bit forced, and I found myself questioning some of his actions and decisions. This is something you might need to adjust to early on to fully enjoy the story. Another concern is the humor. Some of the jokes, particularly the s*x jokes, felt out of place and unnecessary. While they are part of the MC's personality, I found myself skipping over those sections. Also, the translation quality could use some work. I noticed inconsistencies in name translations and instances of awkward phrasing, which occasionally disrupted my reading flow.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Mysterious Awakening" is an entertaining novel with a unique premise and a compelling protagonist. If you can overlook the occasional questionable humor and translation issues, you'll find a story that's both thrilling and engaging. I recommend giving it a try, especially if you're a fan of the ghost RPG genre.
