My Thoughts on My Brother Has Been Following Me Since His Death
First Impressions
Okay, so "My Brother Has Been Following Me Since His Death" grabbed my attention with its intriguing title, and the tags really sealed the deal. Action, fantasy, mystery, psychological, and supernatural? Sign me up! The premise of a twin brother haunting his sister after dying at birth is inherently compelling, and I was eager to see how the author would execute it. Plus, knowing it's part of a larger series called "Heavenly Eyes" adds another layer of intrigue.
What Works Well
The pacing of this story is definitely one of its strengths. It's a relatively short story, which allows it to move quickly and keep you hooked from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the MC and her ghost brother. He's a total tsundere, all sharp words and grumpy attitude, but clearly protective of his sister. This push-and-pull creates a fun and engaging relationship that I found myself rooting for. The story is also a fast paced, twisty ride where the MC uncovers the truth about her family. The author does a good job of building suspense as the MC pieces together the puzzle of her past.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the fast pace, I did find myself wishing for a bit more clarity in certain areas. The story relies heavily on an unreliable narrator, which can be a fun narrative device, but at times it felt like key details were glossed over or left unexplained. I was left with a few lingering questions about the specifics of the family schemes and the brother's abilities. A little more exposition in these areas would have elevated the story for me.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, I'm going to tread carefully here because I want to avoid giving away too much. The reveal of the family's secrets is definitely a highlight, but it also felt a bit rushed. I think the impact of these revelations could have been amplified with more build-up and emotional exploration.
Final Verdict
Overall, "My Brother Has Been Following Me Since His Death" is a solid read that delivers on its promise of supernatural mystery and family drama. While it could benefit from a bit more clarity and depth, the compelling characters, fast-paced plot, and intriguing premise make it a worthwhile experience. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. I'm also curious enough to check out the other stories in the "Heavenly Eyes" series!
