My Thoughts on Level 1 Strongest Sage ~ Cursed to Be Able to Use Only the Lowest Level of Magic, but Because of the God’s Miscalculation I Got Infinite Magic and Became the Strongest ~
First Impressions
Okay, so the title is a mouthful, right? "Level 1 Strongest Sage..." Yeah, we've all seen this kind of premise before. Another isekai where the MC is overpowered from the get-go. I went in expecting a fairly generic wish-fulfillment story, and honestly, that's partially what I got. But there were some surprises along the way.
What Works Well
What initially grabbed me was the MC's personality. He's not a complete pushover, and he actually uses his brain sometimes. That's a huge plus in a genre often filled with cardboard protagonists. I also appreciated that the early chapters focused on his personal life and training, rather than just endless battles. The author does a decent job of creating a lighthearted, easy-to-read experience, perfect for unwinding before bed. Some of the character interactions can be genuinely funny, and the romance, while sometimes immature, has its moments.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel isn't without its flaws. The plot can feel contrived, and the power scaling gets a little ridiculous. The MC's overwhelming strength often negates any real sense of tension, as setbacks are usually due to his own carelessness rather than any genuine threat. Several readers also pointed out that as the story progresses, the MC can become frustratingly naive, especially when the author tries to introduce more serious or edgy elements. The harem aspect can also feel forced and excessive, with characters seemingly falling for the MC with little to no development. A recurring problem that I noticed is that the MC doesn't seem to have any real values and is happy to kiss, pet and bath with all the girls in his harem even though he says he only likes Tina.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have mentioned plot twists in later volumes, particularly around Volume 6, involving reincarnated characters and memory loss. I won't delve into specifics, but be aware that the story does take some unexpected turns that might not appeal to everyone.
Final Verdict
"Level 1 Strongest Sage" is a mixed bag. If you're looking for a deep, complex story with intricate world-building, this isn't it. But if you want a light, easy-going isekai with a slightly-less-dense-than-average protagonist and don't mind the tropes, you might find some enjoyment here. Just be prepared for some moments of cringe and a plot that can feel a bit all over the place. I'd say it's a solid 3/5 – perfectly average, but with enough charm to keep some readers hooked.
