My Thoughts on Legend of Ling Tian
"Legend of Ling Tian" certainly presents a mixed bag of elements, and my experience reading about it reflects that. While it has moments of brilliance and unique world-building, some glaring inconsistencies and character issues held me back from fully embracing it.
First Impressions
The initial chapters are... rough. I can see why some readers dropped it early on. The prologue involving the MC's past life feels rushed and doesn't adequately explain his supposed genius. It felt jarring. The reincarnation trope is a common starting point, but the execution here left me wanting more. The idea of a super-intelligent toddler running around also felt a bit ridiculous, even for a xianxia novel.
What Works Well
Despite the rocky start, the novel finds its footing later on. Many readers praised the intricate political schemes and the complex world-building. The author clearly put a lot of thought into crafting a world with layers of intrigue and hidden agendas. I also appreciated the humor sprinkled throughout the story. The MC's "silkpants" persona, while sometimes over the top, provided some genuinely funny moments. The writing itself is strong, with detailed descriptions and well-crafted tension. The army building and kingdom-building aspects that emerge later on add another layer of depth and strategic complexity, which I found quite engaging.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue is the MC's character. His arrogance often feels unearned, and his actions frequently contradict his stated desire to lay low. I struggled to reconcile his supposed intelligence with some of his illogical decisions. Furthermore, the side characters often fall flat, existing solely to praise and support the MC. This hero worship syndrome made it difficult for me to connect with them on a deeper level. The romance, while present, also feels somewhat superficial, with many female characters simply being attracted to the MC without much development.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several reviews mention the MC forgiving his betrayer in his past life and even marrying her in the next. This plot point seems to be a major turn-off for many readers, and I can understand why. Such a drastic shift in character and the seemingly illogical forgiveness can be frustrating.
Final Verdict
"Legend of Ling Tian" is a flawed but potentially rewarding read. If you can overlook the early inconsistencies and the somewhat one-dimensional side characters, you might find yourself enjoying the intricate plots, the humorous moments, and the unique world-building. However, be warned that the MC's arrogance and some questionable plot decisions might test your patience. I'd give it a cautious recommendation, advising readers to push past the first few chapters before making a final judgment.
