My Thoughts on Kanpeki na Sako-san wa Mobu (Boku) Mitai ni Naritai

This web novel, with its intriguing title, promised a lighthearted dive into school life romance, and for the most part, it delivered. As someone who enjoys a quick, feel-good read, I was eager to see how this story unfolded, and I wasn't entirely disappointed.

First Impressions

The initial chapters, I'll admit, didn't immediately grab me. It took a little while for the story to find its footing, but once it did, it picked up considerable speed. The premise, while familiar, had a certain charm that kept me curious. The idea of a "perfect" girl wanting to emulate a "mob" (background character) is interesting and definitely something different.

What Works Well

What I appreciated most was the novel's focus. It didn't get bogged down in unnecessary side plots or excessive drama. The supporting characters, while not deeply explored, served their purpose in furthering the growth of the two main characters. This streamlined approach made for a brisk and enjoyable reading experience. I also found the relationship between the leads to be quite sweet, even if the pacing felt a bit rushed at times. It’s a welcome change of pace from overly saccharine stories.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the brevity of the story, it did come at a cost. The rapid progression of the relationship felt a little unnatural, with significant time skips and exposition dumps. I would have liked to see more of their day-to-day interactions to better establish their connection. The lack of depth in the supporting characters, while understandable given the length, also left me wanting more.

Final Verdict

Kanpeki na Sako-san wa Mobu (Boku) Mitai ni Naritai is a perfectly acceptable read when you're looking for something short, sweet, and undemanding. It's not a masterpiece, but it doesn't try to be. It's like a refreshing can of soda – not overly sweet, but satisfying in its simplicity. If you're seeking a quick, lighthearted romance with a unique premise, this might just hit the spot. I'd say it's a solid choice for a casual read.

Synopsis

Sako Machika is perfect and without flaws. She’s at the top of the student year with her excellent grades and has a cute face that makes everybody look twice. Excelling at her club, skilled at housework and chores, she’s the target of every boy’s admiration. “I…like you.” Wait, Sako-san confessed to me?! But…I’m just a nobody, we’re not a good match for each other! Yet out of nowhere— “It’s such a botched haircut, right?” “You were looking at my thighs the entire time.” She would suddenly cut her long and beautiful hair, shortening her skirt, showing an imperfect appearance while relentlessly approaching me… “As long as I’m not perfect—I have a chance, right?” It’s all an attempt to make us seem like a better match?!
