My Thoughts on It’s Impossible That My Evil Overlord Is So Cute
This web novel is quite the… experience. It's a wild ride that mashes together so many genres, it feels like a comedic hotpot. If you're looking for something serious, steer clear. But if you're in the mood for satire and don't mind a heavy dose of parody, you might find yourself enjoying this.
First Impressions
Initially, I found the first few chapters a bit slow to get going. It felt like the story was throwing a lot at me without much context. But, thankfully, things picked up quickly. Once the humor kicks in, it's hard not to get swept along for the ride.
What Works Well
The comedy is definitely the strongest point. The premise is inherently absurd: an overpowered MC who can obliterate entire galaxies, but is perpetually broke and living a mundane life. The author leans hard into this contrast, creating some truly laugh-out-loud moments. The dynamic between the MC and his "evil overlord" loli companion is also a highlight, adding another layer of comedic chaos to the mix. The story has been divided into multiple short stories/slices of life and at the end of each one either progress the main story a little, save his tenant, or obtain more girls.
Areas of Concern
While the comedic absurdity is a strength, it can also be a weakness. The MC's constant complaining about money, despite his god-like abilities, grates after a while. It feels illogical and unrealistic, and the author's insistence on playing the "poverty" gag can become tiresome. Also, the school setting feels unnecessary and forced. The characters never seem to learn anything, and it serves little purpose other than to shoehorn in some generic slice-of-life elements.
