My Thoughts on Immortal Demon
Immortal Demon. The title alone promises a wild ride, and after diving in, I can say it mostly delivers on that expectation, albeit with a few stumbles along the way. This xuanhuan story definitely leans into the darker side of cultivation, focusing on a protagonist driven by a singular, ruthless goal: immortality through any means necessary.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, you're thrown into a world where strength reigns supreme. The protagonist is cold, calculating, and utterly devoid of sentimentality. His demonic cultivation technique demands constant growth, fueled by, well, let's just say a lot of bloodshed. If you're looking for a morally upright hero, you've come to the wrong place. This is a story of ambition, power, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of ultimate strength.
What Works Well
The sheer brutality of the protagonist is a major draw. The author doesn't shy away from depicting the consequences of his actions, and the world feels appropriately dangerous and unforgiving. The constant drive for self-improvement is also compelling. I found myself invested in seeing just how far the protagonist was willing to go to achieve his goals. The explanations for the various elements introduced, like the cultivation system and the protagonist's abilities, are well-integrated, which helps maintain a sense of immersion.
Areas of Concern
While the relentless action is a key feature, it can also become a bit repetitive. At times, it felt like the story was prioritizing the kill count over meaningful plot development. The system, while initially interesting, seems to lose its significance as the story progresses, almost becoming a superfluous element. The rapid pace also means that some aspects, like the cultivation levels, feel somewhat arbitrary, with the protagonist leveling up based on sheer volume of enemies defeated rather than a more nuanced progression.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, heads up – there's a spoiler about the female character: she dies. This highlights the protagonist's unwavering focus on his own goals, but it also means there's little room for emotional connection or development of relationships.
Final Verdict
Immortal Demon is a decent read if you're in the mood for a dark, action-packed xuanhuan story with a ruthless protagonist. It's a power fantasy with a demonic twist. Just be prepared for a fast-paced, brutal narrative that might sacrifice depth for the sake of constant progression. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5. It's not perfect, but it's certainly a memorable and engaging read for fans of the genre.
