My Thoughts on Hey, Don’t Act Unruly!
"Hey, Don’t Act Unruly!" is a completed web novel that I recently dove into, and it was definitely a ride. With a mix of comedy, josei, and romance, it promised a lighthearted story, and for the most part, it delivered.
First Impressions
The premise is definitely attention-grabbing: a woman, Gao Yu Lan, gets wrongly accused of being a lesbian and loses her job. In a drunken haze, she decides to find a man to prove everyone wrong, but ends up stealing a dog instead. I have to admit, that's a unique setup!
What Works Well
The humor is a major draw. I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of the characters, especially the male lead, Yin Ze, and his family. His shamelessness is definitely a highlight, and the dynamic between him and Gao Yu Lan is both funny and cute. The supporting characters are also well-developed, each with their own quirks and backstories, which adds depth to the world. I particularly liked the little cousin, Niu Niu; she's absolutely adorable and cunning.
I also appreciated the MC's growth throughout the story. She starts off as someone who's easily pushed around, but gradually becomes more confident and brave, learning to stand up for herself. The romance is sweet and non-toxic, with the male lead being supportive and encouraging.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the story overall, I did have some minor issues. The ending felt a bit rushed, and I would have liked to see more closure for some of the side characters. Additionally, the initial conflict with Gao Yu Lan's former employer is mostly told through narration, which made it harder to fully connect with her struggles.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find the actions of the female coworker annoying and potentially off-putting. The male lead's family members are black-bellied, so expect some level of manipulation.
Final Verdict
"Hey, Don’t Act Unruly!" is a fun and entertaining read that's perfect for when you want something lighthearted and humorous. While it's not without its flaws, the charming characters and engaging plot make it a worthwhile experience. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a feel-good story with plenty of laughs.
