My Thoughts on Headless Villainess
First Impressions
"Headless Villainess" grabbed my attention immediately with its bizarre premise: a villainess gets beheaded, but the story doesn't end there! Instead, we follow her body, now inhabited by a new soul, and her still-conscious head. I went in expecting dark humor and maybe a bit of the macabre, and I wasn't disappointed. The synopsis hints at a pitiful MC, but I quickly learned there's a devilish twist to the situation.
What Works Well
The dynamic between the body and the head is the heart of this story. The body, now controlled by our "virtuous" MC, basically torments the original villainess's head, creating a darkly comedic and somewhat pitiable situation. I found the MC to be incredibly entertaining, a sadistic mastermind lurking beneath a veneer of innocence. The plot is undeniably unique and refreshing, offering a delightful spin on the villainess trope. I particularly enjoyed how the author addresses the original villainess's behavior. While her beheading might seem harsh, her past actions aren't excused, adding a layer of moral complexity to the story. Plus, the revenge plot, though swift, is incredibly satisfying.
Areas of Concern
My biggest issue, and it seems I'm not alone here, is the story's brevity. At only three chapters, it feels incredibly rushed. While the plot is engaging, I craved more character development and world-building. The ending, while conclusive, felt somewhat abrupt, leaving me wanting more details about the aftermath. The side stories, while appreciated, felt a bit disconnected from the main narrative, leaving me slightly confused about their relevance. Also, while the humor mostly landed for me, I can see how some might find the tragic backstory of the original villainess a bit difficult to reconcile with the comedic tone.

A key plot point involves the MC, in the headless body, ultimately toppling the kingdom and becoming the Headless Empress of a crime syndicate. While Severed Head-chan initially sought revenge, the consequences prove to be far more destructive than she anticipated. I also appreciate the touch where even though the OG Host cursed everyone, upon realizing it would come true, she tried to stop MC from ruining others.
Final Verdict
Despite its short length, "Headless Villainess" is a surprisingly enjoyable read. The unique premise, the darkly comedic dynamic between the body and the head, and the morally gray MC make it a memorable experience. While I wish there were more chapters to flesh out the story and characters, the brevity also contributes to its easy digestibility. If you're looking for a quick, quirky, and dark fantasy read, I'd recommend giving "Headless Villainess" a try. I'm giving it a solid 4/5 stars.
