My Thoughts on Forever and Always, My Childhood Friend is the Cutest Girl in the World

This web novel is a sugar rush in literary form. "Forever and Always, My Childhood Friend is the Cutest Girl in the World" delivers exactly what it promises: a wholesome, sweet romance between childhood friends. I came in expecting fluff, and I definitely got it, but there's more to it than just pure sweetness.

First Impressions

From the very beginning, I was drawn in by the simplicity of the premise. It's a story about two people gradually realizing their feelings for each other, and that core concept is executed quite well. The early chapters set a comfortable pace, establishing the characters and their relationship in a way that feels natural and believable.

What Works Well

The strength of this novel lies in its character dynamics. The interactions between Tohru and Rin are genuinely heartwarming. I found myself smiling at their everyday interactions and the subtle ways they showed their affection for one another. The author does a great job of building the tension and anticipation as their feelings develop, making the eventual confession all the more satisfying. It's a slow burn, but a rewarding one. I also appreciated the protagonist's goal to become a writer, as it provided a nice backdrop to the romance.

Areas of Concern

While the novel excels at being a feel-good story, it does have some shortcomings. The lack of significant conflict might not appeal to all readers. The story focuses heavily on the main couple, which means that side characters are underdeveloped. Also, some found the pacing to be slow at times, with certain chapters feeling repetitive.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers have noted that the story peaks around chapter 50, and the after story devolves into generic fluff. Also, it is revealed that the female lead was the person who gave him reviews on his novels.

Final Verdict

Despite its minor flaws, "Forever and Always, My Childhood Friend is the Cutest Girl in the World" is a delightful read for anyone looking for a heartwarming and wholesome romance. It's a story that will leave you feeling good. If you're in the mood for a sweet escape, this novel is definitely worth checking out. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Synopsis

I’m a second year high schooler, Tohru Yonekura. I have a childhood friend, Rin Asakura. She has good grades and is quite the athlete. Admittedly, she has a bit of an attitude and is tough to deal with sometimes. I’ve always had unrequited feelings for her, but she always seemed so distant. Every day I would constantly mull over how to shorten the distance between us. However one day, I noticed a change in Rin. She would invite me to the movies, treat me to some homemade cooking and hug me tightly when we hung out at home. With every passing day, I could feel the walls between us starting to break down. Me and my insincere childhood friend; this is our story, our bittersweet romcom.
