My Thoughts on Forced into the Deep

"Forced into the Deep" is a web novel that definitely stirred up some strong feelings in me, as I can see from the mixed reactions it's received. It's a mature yaoi story with a lot of drama, centering on a relationship that begins under less-than-ideal circumstances. Overall, I found it to be a compelling, though sometimes frustrating, read.

First Impressions

The premise grabbed me right away: a protagonist stepping into the life of a disabled, seemingly helpless ML. The initial chapters are strong, setting up the dynamic between the two men and hinting at deeper secrets. I was intrigued to see how their relationship would evolve, especially given the power imbalance at the start.

What Works Well

What really shines is the character development, particularly the Male Lead's journey. I appreciated the author's attention to detail in portraying the realities of caring for someone with disabilities. The ML's initial vulnerability and subsequent growth as he strives to regain his strength and independence felt authentic.

The MC is also a strong character in his own right, and I enjoyed that he wasn't a pushover. He has his own motivations and isn't easily swayed, which adds complexity to the relationship. The story explores themes of betrayal, redemption, and the complexities of love, all set against a backdrop of hidden identities and family drama. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, and I found myself invested in seeing how it all played out. Many readers enjoyed the flow of the story and the realistic portrayal of the difficulties that the characters face.

Areas of Concern

I did have some reservations about certain plot points. The ML's actions, particularly his deception, created a significant barrier to fully embracing the romance. While his motivations were understandable given his past, it made it difficult to root for him at times. The "wife-chasing crematorium" trope, while enjoyable for some, felt somewhat drawn out and unnecessary.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers have expressed concerns about the ML's manipulative behavior and the circumstances surrounding their initial intimacy, and I can understand that perspective. The drugging incident, in particular, is a problematic element that some found difficult to overlook.

Final Verdict

Despite its flaws, "Forced into the Deep" is a web novel that I found myself thinking about long after I finished reading. The characters are complex, the plot is engaging, and the overall story is ultimately one of love and redemption. If you're willing to overlook some questionable choices and embrace the drama, it's a read that will leave a lasting impression.

Synopsis

For more than 20 years, Xing Zhongwan has been an unwelcomed illegitimate child. He was suddenly called home to fulfill his mother’s dying wish by caring for a half-dead man from the Qi conglomerate. Qi Yun used to be the most prominent child and heir of the Qi Family until a car accident took away his legs, eyes, and fiancée, crippling the once great phoenix into becoming a mere insect. With the Qi family in a predicament, only one person came to mind, the “daughter” of the Xing family who had once been divorced by Qi Yun. With high hopes, the two families forced the two young people together to deepen their relationship.
