I jumped in expecting a slow-burn progression, but the pacing was surprisingly quick. Before I knew it, the family was already on their way to a better life, largely thanks to our protagonist's… unique abilities. The initial premise of a family struggling against famine is quickly overtaken by the supernatural, which might not be for everyone, but it definitely kept things interesting.
