My Thoughts on Ex-Girlfriend Blackens Every Day
"Ex-Girlfriend Blackens Every Day" is quite the rollercoaster. It's a novel that promises a ruthless female lead who dishes out revenge on terrible male leads across various worlds, and it mostly delivers. But, like any wild ride, it has its ups, downs, and moments where I questioned my life choices.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the premise. A world-hopping MC who refuses to play the victim and instead turns the tables on渣男 (scumbag men)? Sign me up! The first few arcs are a blast, filled with satisfying comeuppance and clever schemes. The idea of a female lead who doesn't forgive and forget, who actively seeks retribution, is incredibly appealing, especially if you're tired of the usual damsel-in-distress tropes.
What Works Well
The biggest draw is undoubtedly the anti-heroine herself. Linlang is cunning, cruel, and unapologetically herself. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, and her methods, while sometimes morally questionable, are always entertaining. There's a certain cathartic pleasure in watching her dismantle these flawed male leads, especially when they're the kind of characters who usually get away with everything in typical romance novels. The world-hopping format keeps things fresh, with each arc offering a new setting and a new set of villains to vanquish. Some of the arcs are genuinely well-crafted, with intricate plots and satisfying resolutions. The side characters can be interesting, and her best friend is a nice addition to the story.
Areas of Concern
As I progressed, some cracks started to appear. The writing can be uneven, with plot holes and inconsistencies that sometimes made it hard to fully immerse myself. Also, the MC's actions sometimes felt excessive, crossing the line from satisfying revenge to gratuitous cruelty. I found myself questioning the morality of her actions, especially when innocent characters got caught in the crossfire. The fast-paced nature of the arcs, while initially appealing, sometimes resulted in rushed character development and unsatisfying conclusions. Not to mention, the romance is very low.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out potentially triggering content, including mentions of r*pe and abuse, although not explicitly depicted. A few arcs also feature the MC manipulating and mistreating characters who are essentially innocent, which can be off-putting.
Final Verdict
"Ex-Girlfriend Blackens Every Day" is a flawed but ultimately entertaining novel. If you're looking for a light read with a strong female lead who isn't afraid to be ruthless, this might be for you. Just be prepared for some uneven writing, questionable morality, and potentially triggering content. I'd rate it a solid 3.5/5 – enjoyable, but with a few caveats.
