My Thoughts on Do You Think You Can Run After Reincarnating, Nii-san?
This web novel is quite the ride, and definitely not for the faint of heart. It's a blend of genres I don't often see together – comedy, ecchi, and romance mixed with genuine horror and psychological elements. The premise alone had me intrigued, and after diving in, I can see why it's garnered such a dedicated following.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the seemingly absurd concept: a reincarnated protagonist whose main goal isn't to save the world or build a harem, but to escape his obsessive, yandere little sister. It felt like a refreshing twist on the isekai trope. The early chapters deliver on this promise, setting a darkly comedic tone that had me chuckling one moment and feeling deeply unsettled the next.
What Works Well
The standout aspect of this story is undoubtedly the portrayal of the yandere sister. This isn't your typical overprotective sibling; she's genuinely terrifying, and the author doesn't shy away from depicting her disturbing actions. The suspense is palpable, and the constant threat she poses keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also appreciate the author's ability to balance the tense, horrific elements with lighter, more comedic moments. It prevents the story from becoming overwhelmingly dark and adds an intriguing layer of complexity. The MC is also very interesting as he grows stronger, but his sister seems to always be stronger.
Areas of Concern
The pacing can be a bit uneven at times. I did see some comments about the length of the chapters impacting translation speed, and the fact that the story hasn't been updated in a while is definitely a concern. It's always disappointing to invest in a story only to find it potentially abandoned.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Be warned, this section contains spoilers.
Several readers have pointed out that the story takes some dark turns later on. Apparently, the MC goes through some truly horrific experiences, eventually leading him down a path of despair and even demon lord-dom. There are also mentions of time loops and reality warping, which adds another layer of complexity (and potential confusion) to the plot.
Final Verdict
Despite its potential flaws and the dark subject matter, I find Do You Think You Can Run After Reincarnating, Nii-san? to be a compelling and unique read. If you're a fan of yandere stories and don't mind some genuinely disturbing content, I'd recommend giving it a try. Just be prepared for a wild ride and the possibility of an unfinished story. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
