My Thoughts on Cannon Fodder’s Strategy Script is Reversed
"Cannon Fodder’s Strategy Script is Reversed" is a completed web novel that I recently dove into, and it's a fascinating mix of comedy, fantasy, and romance, all set against an ancient Chinese backdrop. The premise alone – a protagonist tasked with preventing the "white moonlight" from turning dark – had me hooked. Overall, I found it an enjoyable, albeit imperfect, read.
First Impressions
Right off the bat, the story throws you into the deep end with Shen Qingyao's transmigration as the sickly sister of the original female lead. The goal? Prevent Lu Zhao, the would-be villain, from succumbing to darkness. I appreciated the quick setup and the immediate sense of urgency. The dynamic between the characters was intriguing from the start, and I was curious to see how the "strategy script" would play out.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of this novel is definitely the romance. Lu Zhao is the ultimate green flag, and his devotion to Shen Qingyao is incredibly heartwarming. I loved the "dog food" moments and the overall sweetness of their relationship. The author does a great job of creating a doting and devoted love interest, which is a huge draw for many readers, including myself. I also found the supporting characters to be well-developed and charming, adding depth to the overall narrative. I also enjoyed the meta take on system and transmigration tropes.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel, there were a few elements that didn't quite land for me. The system, for example, felt more like a hindrance than a help. It seemed to add unnecessary complications without providing much benefit. There were also some unexplained phenomena and plot holes that required a bit of suspension of disbelief. While these didn't ruin the experience, they did detract from the overall polish of the story. I also had a slight issue with the delivery of the MC's guilt about taking over the OG host's body.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, here's where we get into spoiler territory. It turns out that Shen Qingyao is actually the original sister of the female lead and was transmigrated to the modern world for soul healing. Additionally, Lu Zhao has always loved Shen Qingyao, even in the original plot, and his blackening was a result of her death and the machinations of others.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "Cannon Fodder’s Strategy Script is Reversed" is a worthwhile read, especially if you're a fan of romance and transmigration stories. The heartwarming relationship between the leads, the charming supporting characters, and the meta commentary on common tropes make it an engaging and enjoyable experience. I'd recommend giving it a try, just be prepared to overlook a few plot holes along the way.
